Food Waste Reduction

Our goal is to enact a variety of strategies to address food waste, including expanding food waste solutions to rural areas.

Our work:

  • Conduct a regional assessment of food waste reduction strategies in Western NC including conducting  a survey of Regional Extension offices around current food waste efforts in order to understand what food waste efforts they currently use and be able to assess and potentially share with the broader community.

  • Involve more community members (not necessarily tied to organizations) with more regional representation to be a part of this group. Create a diverse member base that is inclusive of varied income levels, community members of color, people living in rural areas and residents of region outside of Buncombe county

  • Hire a regional coordinator

  • Meeting Monthly

If you would like more information about this Strategy Area, please contact Jenn Tuft, jenn@wncfoodjustice.com.

Food Waste Reduction Strategy Area is connected with the local WNC Food Waste Solutions as the Access and Justice working group, specifically within low wealth and rural communities with on-going efforts to expand into the 18 western most counties in NC.
